Desolation uses several new buildings for processing wood.
The Sawmill[]
Here, wood from the trees you've cut down is processed.
All the mushroom-trees drop Fungal Wood, which can be processed into Fungal Heartwood, increasing the value. Next, the wood may be polished using oil or flutterwing jelly to increase the value even further.
The strange trees (flesh trees, bone spikes, glass spires, gem caps, radiant caps, living adra pillars) are not for use by the carpenter and, ideally, would not drop logs at all, but the game says the have to. To avoid wasting them, it is advised to keep the wood from these trees in a separate stockpile, linked only to the sawmill and the Adra Engineer workshop.
Version 1.5 rebalances the processing of the strange trees. For example, 10 flesh tree logs are now required for a reaction, and the result is 10 meat, 2 leather and 1 bonemold pieces. Also, the crystal/gem/glass wood reactions now produce additional ornamental gems (Grey Crystal).
Dryad Creatures[]
Another function of the Sawmill is the processing of dryad-like creature parts. These new creatures are dangerous (they consist of bronze-like wood and have natural weapons), but hunting them is rewarding: when such creature is butchered, multiple “glob” items are produced; “mutant wood” globs are turned into Ironwood logs, and “mutant bark” globs are turned into tools for use in the Organic Refinery, where barkweave cloth is made. The new logs can be processed into highest-value logs, or used at the Ironbark Carpenter workshop.
There, an ironwood log can be turned into Enchanted Ironbark Planks with obsidian and catalyst caps. These can be used to make furniture, weapons and armor in the same workshop; alternatively, they can be processed into stronger Fearwood Planks if you have some dark arcanite.
Cyanwood and Duskwood[]
As of 1.5, the Organic Factory can produce two new substances: Cyan glue and Dusk glue, using mutant bonemold (for both), obsidian caps and crystal berries (for Dusk). These are used to create hard wood materials: Cyanwood and Duskwood, as well as Cyanleather (at the tanner's shop).
Cyanleather and Cyanwood are components in making titan ivory weapons and armor. Cyanwood and Duskwood planks can also be used individually to make furniture, weapons and armor. All these reactions are done at the Craftsman's workshop.
Cyanwood is equal to mutant hard materials, and Duskwood is equal to Noble Bronze. Cyanleather is equal to Morphling skin.
